wine country Farm estate

willamette valley, oregon

Located thirteen miles Southwest of Portland in the Willamette Valley along the foothills of the Chehalem Mountains is a ninety-acre farm estate surrounded by rolling hills of hazelnut and apple orchards, grape vineyards and wineries. This region of the Pacific Northwest has long attracted viticulturists and wine enthusiasts as the soil and climate provide the ideal environment for multiple grape varieties, especially the Pinot Noir grapes, rivaling France’s Côtes du Rhône and North Italy’s Piedmont region for their production of Pinot Noir wines.

The house location on the site was a response to the solar orientation throughout the year as well as the mountain top views in the distance of The Cascades and Coast Range mountains that frame the valley. Allowing the sun and the mountains to guide the placement, the house orients its main structure East to West, celebrating the views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Jefferson. This orientation has also allowed the garage and water silo roof to be utilized for solar panels and optimal greenhouse location South of the main house.
